New Policy: Cell Phones, Smartwatches, and Wireless Earbuds Prohibited During the School Day
Effective 2025-26 School Year
MCE Families,
As outlined in the letter from Superintendent Dr. Brian White, starting with the 2025β2026 school year, students will no longer be allowed to use or display the following during the school day:
π± Cell phones
β Smartwatches
π§ Wireless earbuds
This new policy is a direct response to Missouri Senate Bill 68, which requires all public and charter schools to limit student access to personal electronic communication devices during instructional hours.
Policy Highlights:
1. Devices must be stored out of sight (e.g., in a backpack) or left at home.
2. Usage will be prohibited during class, lunch, passing time, and recess. Unauthorized use will result in disciplinary consequences as outlined in the student code of conduct.
3. Students with medical or documented support needs (IEP/504) may qualify for exemptions. Please reach out to the office to discuss accommodations.
We recognize this may be a change for some families, but the goal is to reduce distractions and support student focus, safety, and well-being.
Thank you for your support as we implement this new state requirement.
