Recent Class Projects

The last month has flown by. Last week, we had a final test over the Earth Science unit. Please make sure your student is checking their grades and remind them they are able to retake test to improve their grades. With progress reports coming out soon keep in mind that you may see some changes in student marks. The level they are at currently is what will show. This can be confusing because it can improve or decrease over the course of the year for certain objectives, but they always have the chance the continue progress on all objectives. Please encourage your student to attempt level 4 assignments once they reach the proficient level (level 3).
At the end of last week, all classes had a chance to do a simulation of the rock cycle using Starburst candies. Students seemed to really enjoy this and learned a lot. Our next unit will be over Cell Processes. As always if you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact me.

The students have been working hard in and out of class on projects. We are currently in a unit dealing with Plate Tectonics, and all classes just had their first quiz for the unit over Continental Drift Theory. This week we will have a quiz over Seafloor Spreading and take a look at plate boundaries. I have and will be sending home study guides for all tests, so please take the time to go over that with your student if you have a moment. As this is the last week in first quarter, please encourage your student to check with me on the current progress of their grades. All students need to work up to at least a three on all objectives. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me!

For the last few weeks, we have been working on the scientific method. Currently our class has been busy doing several in class experiments, ranging from topics of paper airplanes to a cola challenge.
