FAFSA

Free Application for Federal Student Aid

The A+ Schools Program requires parents to make a good faith effort to secure all available federal post-secondary student financial assistance funds that do not require repayment. Students who do not submit the FAFSA form will not be able to access A+ funds at the post-secondary level.

To meet this requirement, the following guidelines are in place:

  • Parents must complete and send in the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA information must be sent to the state community college or state career/technical school that the student is planning to attend;

  • Parents need to apply as early as possible, but not before October of the academic year of the student's graduation;

  • If the student will be attending summer school at the state community college or state career/technical school immediately after high school graduation, the previous year's FAFSA must also be filled out;

Counselors and post-secondary schools hold workshops on filling out a FAFSA and most will make appointments with parents to help in the process.

Students should be sure to list the community college or vocational school they plan to attend on the FAFSA. Students may list up to six schools on the FAFSA. Failure to do so causes unnecessary delays.

The FAFSA application form is available online on the governmental website.
